Doing Art When You Are Free
Time
Whenever you feel like it / Do it as a weekend project
Tools
A canvas, art block, acrylic paints, water colours and paint brushes
What To Do
Have an idea of what you would like to paint. You may paint a picture you saw in a magazine or follow some YouTube tutorials regarding art. You may sketch the picture lightly on a canvas before painting it. You may use acrylic paints or water colours. Paint to your heart’s content. Let your creativity flow.
What Does It Do
Each stroke of the paintbrush and the colour that splashes onto the canvas represent your creativity. Let your imagination flow and paint according to what your heart desires. There is no right or wrong in art. Painting keeps you focused, besides helping you to remain calm and relaxed. It also distracts you from the voices.
How I Feel After Doing It
I find doing art projects a great coping mechanism for managing the voices. At the same time, I get to express myself freely through painting. Every stroke of the brush on the canvas gives me a form of release from the pent-up frustrations and emotions. Over time, my art improved by leaps and bounds compared to when I first started. Now, as I look back at my art pieces, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Although I consider myself a beginner, I dare say I did well as this was done through self-learning. Of course, I still have a lot to learn and areas to improve on. I hope to churn out better art work as time pass for I have a dream to have my art pieces exhibited at an art gallery one day.
