Talk To Someone You Feel Comfortable With
Time
Anytime there is a need
What To Do
Talk to someone when you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts or troubled by the voices. Do not keep them suppressed. Pour out your feelings to one whom you trust and are comfortable talking to. Someone kind, reliable and empathetic will help a lot. One who understands what you are going through. It can be your caregiver, loved ones, family members or a good friend. Surround yourself with people whom you love and who love you.
What Does It Do
It takes away the pain and stress that are bottled up. Troubled thoughts and voices disturb the peace we are trying so hard to achieve. I have found out that it is not worth fighting or arguing with them. Instead, try to keep distracted by doing activities. Find peace and comfort through having a good conversation with someone who understands your struggles.
How I Feel After Doing It
Usually, I feel relieved after talking about what bothers me, to someone whom I trust. The heavy feelings of pain will slowly begin to fade. It is as if a burden is lifted from me and I can breathe easily. I would not feel so lonely. Being comfortable and in the present makes me less upset. Of course, having trust and faith in yourself is also important. Have faith that you can manage your own feelings well. Allow yourself time to let the uncomfortable feelings slide. When you are brave in expressing your emotions, it will help the other person to better understand your condition and to render the appropriate help.
The ability to express oneself is very important. As humans, I believe that we are all social animals. We want to be loved and accepted by the community and the society despite our condition. Do not be ashamed of your mental health condition. Being a schizophrenic is not much different from one who has a chronic sickness. Both need medication to help manage the condition. You persevere and have gone through a lot. Do not feel belittled as you have the right to be here as much as others. You are worth it!
Your pain as a schizophrenic is a phase in your life. As you fill your life with more happiness and meaningful experiences, you can find happy moments amidst the pain. You can find joy in doing activities and your pain will eventually lessen. Try not to focus only on the negative symptoms of your condition. Your life is more than having schizophrenia. Make it a holistic approach. The power is in your hands. The choice is yours. Take steps to manage your condition better. You can do it!
