Singing When You Feel Like It

What To Do

Try searching for songs or music from YouTube channels. Choose the genre that you enjoy listening to especially those with lyrics. Then, start singing along. As a schizophrenic, I feel that releasing the anger and stress that has been building up is very important. When you feel the tension gradually increasing, you may want to sing to release the pent up anger and frustrations so that it will dissipate and not reach a level where it becomes unbearable.

What Does It Do

Singing a couple of songs may help relieve the pain and make you feel more at ease. Belting out your favourite tunes can make you loosen up, feel happy and brighten up your mood. As you sing along to the lyrics, you also get to be in the present moment and enjoy the session.

How I Feel After Doing It

I usually choose to sing sad and sentimental songs when I am upset and depressed. The sadder the song is, the better it is for me because when I am frazzled, many thoughts race through my mind. I can let it out through singing and feel a sense of peace after that.

On days when I feel better, I will move to the beat of tunes/songs about happiness. I like listening such songs that have the word “happy” even if they are in foreign languages. Although I do not understand completely the lyrics, I still appreciate the fun and joy the upbeat music delivers as it allows me to feel free.
