A self-help book on what you wish to improve
What To Do
Choose a self-help book on which area of your life you wish to improve. It can be a book on learning how to draw, how to hold a conversation, how to be assertive and so on. There are just so many of such books you can find in bookshops or at the library. As we know, reading itself is already a good habit as it helps to widen our knowledge. Hence, equipping ourselves with specific knowledge and understanding of the unknown would lessen our fears. On the other hand, it may also open up opportunities which we are unaware of that could enhance the quality of our lives. Therefore, set aside a good amount of time daily to read self-help books that can make you progress and move forward.
For me, reading helps take my mind off the annoying voices that sometimes affect my daily life. It offers a form of distraction as I immerse myself in the book I am reading.
What Does It Do
Reading keeps me calm and helps to release my stress. When I read, the annoying voices will somehow seem to become gradually softer. After reading a self-help book on mental health, I do not feel as afraid as before. I came to understand my condition better.
How I Feel After Doing It
I understand that reading may be difficult to some Schizo Warriors. As for me, reading uses a lot of brain power as I need to concentrate and focus on the content. Initially, I could not even read a sentence. The will to read is just not there. It was very difficult to get into the habit of reading. However, I kept on trying a little by little. Gradually, I began reading although it was slow. I could only read a page or two before putting the book down. After putting continuous effort for some months, I finally am able to have better focus. I believe we can improve considerably if we put our mind to it. Since then, I have read books on mental health, general knowledge and self-help genres. I feel relieved and peaceful after a good read. I also feel happy that I learned every time I read. I feel contentment. I usually apply the knowledge of what I have read on my Instagram stories to inspire and help other Schizo Warriors.
