Music Therapy When You Need It

Time

Whole day / as when necessary

Mobile handphone, a speaker (optional), Youtube or Spotify app

What To Do 

Choose the type of music that you like, be it sentimental or rock. Through trial and error, you will be able to find your favourite genre that you are most comfortable with. Listening to English oldies songs, songs that have happy or motivational lyrics or soft background cafe music are some of the examples. You may leave it playing in the background for the entire day, if necessary.

What Does It Do

When we listen to music that is soothing and comfortable for us, it gives us a sense of relief and distracts us from the voices. It helps us to focus on the music or the lyrics of the songs instead of concentrating on the content of the voices which can be super annoying.

How I Feel After Doing It

I have been listening to English oldies songs, happy or motivational songs, korean songs as well as cafe music throughout my schizophrenia journey. It really helps me a lot as I find myself more adaptable to the surrounding sounds whenever I venture outdoors.

It aids me to be more used to the voices and not being startled or overly sensitive whenever I hear them. It keeps me calm and grounded. This helps to bring me back to the present moment.

I highly recommend music therapy for Schizo Warriors!
