What To Do
Look at the rain cascading and listen to the rhythm of the falling rain. Notice the pitter-patter of raindrops pelting against the window panes.
What Does It Do
While watching the rain, have a cup of your favourite beverage. Sip slowly to appreciate its taste as you listen to the rain. If you are feeling a lot of pain, hug a pillow, a plush toy or a loved one if they are with you.
Every single sound made by the rain soothes my emotions. The sounds caused by rain crashing onto the roof offers a sense of thankfulness that I am indoors. To me, it radiates a calming ambience. At times, I envisage myself playing in the rain without any restriction, imagining myself dancing and prancing around giddily in the rain.
You may play soothing music with rain sounds in the background. It can help you to further de-stress while enjoying the natural ambience created by the rain.
How I Feel After Doing It
It feels as though the rain washes away my pain and sorrow. I do not need to bawl my eyes out or feel the constant torture. Instead, the rain helps to take it away and soothes my soul. My pain lessens and I feel calmer. I do not know if it is a coincidence but whenever I am overwhelmed with emotions and wish to be alone, it rains. In a way, I feel very blessed when it rains as it somehow comforts me a lot.
With that said, I know that it is a very lonely journey battling schizophrenia. Although we may find comfort in the love and care given by loved ones and friends, it still remains a tough journey. The way to manage it depends fully on ourselves, warriors! A balanced routine, proper medication and nutritious meals as well as having a positive mindset could give us a much needed reprieve. It does not matter what your thoughts may say about you as they do not define you as a person. We must remain strong and resilient and continue to march onwards.
