Drinking Tea To Ease Stress
Time
Have it daily or when you are feeling upset or stressed.
What To Do
Buy the tea that you like or be more adventurous, choose some that you have not tried before. My favourites so far are peppermint and chamomile tea.
What Does It Do
Drinking tea as part of your routine not only helps calm you but also slows down the racing thoughts for at least a short period of time. You can just slowly sip the tea and let the burden go. Try not to hold onto the thoughts. Having your favourite tea in hand will make you look forward to teatime daily. It gives you some alone time besides reminding you that you are safe and sound in your personal space. If you feel comfortable, you may ask a family member or a trusted friend to join you. This way, you can get to practise engaging in conversation and test your attention span too. As for me, I look forward to teatime with my mother as we spend quality time together then.
How I Feel After Doing It
Initially, dunking the teabag into the cup of water reminded me of the dark times back then when in desperation, I dipped my head into a pail of water while holding my breath with voices swirling around laughing at me in the shower. Not understanding my condition, I thought that would at least give me a breather from the annoying voices. How wrong I was! However, a decade down the road, I am able to drink my favourite cup of tea daily while enjoying the peace that I occasionally get.
At times when the voices affect my emotions and mood, the warm cup of tea gives me consolation. Each time I sipped the minty tea, it envelopes me with warmth that soothes my soul. Each sip makes me slow down and reflect on the events of my life during that period of time. I especially like to have tea on a rainy day while looking out of the window listening to the falling rain. I would feel much better after that and am able to continue my daily activities for the rest of the day.
