Cover Yourself with A Blanket
Time
Whenever you feel the need to be safe
What To Do
Get a soft and fluffy blanket in your favourite colour and pattern. Whenever you feel low, go sit on your favourite armchair and drape the blanket over yourself. Be mindful to do so only till the feelings pass. Do not be too indulgent in always wrapping yourself up in a blanket and just lying down. It may be detrimental to your mental health if you always lie down for a long period and do not do anything at all.
What Does It Do
As for me, it makes me feel safe, especially when I am feeling raw and exposed, caused by the voices. I feel very comforted when I swaddle myself in a blanket. Curling up with my blanket helps when I feel dejected or unsafe. The warmth and softness of the blanket help “protect” me from the uneasy feelings that surfaced at that moment.
How I Feel After Doing It
It gives me my alone time to let go and reason within myself. I feel blessed and thankful for everything that I have at that moment. It gives me a sense of comfort, warmth and security.
When I cocooned myself, it gave me the mental satisfaction of being close to myself. This helps to release the anxiety and calms me when I am exasperated by the annoyance caused by the voices. The feeling of being secure is simply liberating.
