Change the way you look at things/ situations or how you would normally do things

What To Do

Try and carry out your daily activities in different ways than what you would normally do. Looking at situations from a different perspective can sum up a different narrative. You can also find small joy in carrying out simple activities. Try to enjoy the process as you advance step by step.

What Does It Do

By doing things differently or looking at situations in a different light may turn out to be more interesting. A situation may not be as serious as you initially thought it might be. A small gesture like saying hello to the newspaper vendor or the milkman may bring a smile to their faces. Walking on the other side of the road that you have not done so before may turn out to be a pleasant experience. You may begin to notice the shops along that side of the road which you normally do not. Sending a message to your loved ones and friends to check up on them may make them feel blessed. It will definitely make their day and lift your mood.

How I Feel After Doing It

In the past, I had a fear of my neighbours and being in crowded areas. However, when I go out these days, I try to acknowledge my neighbours by nodding my head, accompanied by a slight smile. At times, I gather my courage and greet them. I have to admit that it is still tough but I will continue to do so. I also try having small conversations with the vendors at the market, food stalls and restaurants that I go to. All of them responded kindly.

Through these small gestures, it takes my mind off my false beliefs that everyone is conspiring behind my back and are against me. Now, I realised that they are just minding their own business. This helps to lighten my mood as well as reminds me not to make assumptions. I hope that I will gradually be more comfortable being in public.
