1 Minute Breathing Exercise

Time

As and when necessary

Tools

A timer

What To Do

Set a timer for 1 minute. Play some soft background music. Start the breathing exercise. Slowly match your breathing process with the music. Inhale deeply to the count of 3. Hold to the count of 2. Exhale to the count of 4. Repeat in a continuous rhythm for a whole minute.

What Does It Do

You will notice that your heartbeat rate will slowly lower and you will feel calmer. Your mind will be a little more at ease and the feelings of anxiety will eventually subside bit by bit.

How I Feel After Doing It

I feel much lighter after the breathing exercises. A sense of relief and calmness enveloped me. I do not feel the waves of anxiety creeping up on me so strongly. It helps me to be grounded where I can then concentrate on completing the other tasks on my To-Do list for the day.

I can now better focus on more meaningful activities such as my work and spending time with family without being held back by the symptoms. The breathing exercises help me to gain control over the chaotic thoughts and worries racing in my mind and allow me to take a step back to be more aware of my surroundings.
