Taking My Medication On Time Daily
When I was initially prescribed antipsychotic medication, thoughts of not taking them were strong. I had thoughts of hiding the pills under my tongue while pretending to swallow, wrapping them with tissue paper and throwing them away as I had strong suspicions regarding the medication. I was skeptical about the antipsychotics not being able to help with my condition. I thought they would render me in a dazed condition all the time and that I would not be able to function. Thankfully, I did not follow my thoughts or gave in to my suspicions. I took my medication daily without fail and over time, it was proven it indeed helped to ease my condition a lot.
Over the years, I noticed that the negative symptoms are worse from late evening onwards. I talked to my psychiatrist about it and he explained that it could probably be due to the antipsychotic’s effect wearing off. When I had a relapse a few years ago during the Covid pandemic, I know I should not fail to take the medicine. Since then, I set an alarm at a certain time every night to ensure I take my medicine on time.
Unfortunately, the negative symptoms of schizophrenia made me highly suspicious and skeptical. It made me suspect my family. Although they were just thoughts but it caused me a lot of discomfort, particularly when my mother who is my caregiver has always been by my side caring for me with much patience, love and discipline. If not for her reminders, it would be difficult for me to be regularly taking my antipsychotics.
I also had suspicions that my supplements were tampered with when I became tired and listless after consuming them, as I was struggling with a low level of energy. After a while, I learned that certain supplements are better taken after dinner as they help the body relax.
Based on personal experience, it is highly suggested that you take your antipsychotics daily at the same time. The idea of taking the medication is not to eradicate the voices. It is to enable the schizo warriors to function and carry out their daily activities as effectively as possible.
